Teen birth rates fell in the last decade in every state. New Hampshire's rate dropped even more and is currently about half the national average.
In real numbers, 33 teens per thousand gave birth in New Hampshire in 1991. The number was 24 in one thousand last year.
Nationally, the birth rate dropped from 62 births per thousand to 50.

Wildlife officials are dropping rabies vaccine over eight Coos County communities and Vermont to see if they can prevent wildlife rabies from spreading north into Canada.
In the last seven years the disease wiped out hundreds of racoons in the southern parts of
the states and the outbreak spread north.
The vaccine treated bait is not harmful to people, pets or wildlife.

Officials in Berlin say there is some reason for optimism. The Pulp and Paper of America
mill has paid half its overdue water bill.
The city threatened to turn off the mill's water because it was
behind on payements.
The Mayor says the city is optimistic the mill is getting refinancing and will settle other debts too, including
millions of dollars in overdue taxes to five North Country communities.

Stocks ended the day lower, but the major market averages managed to bounce back from their worst levels of the session.
The Dow Jones Industrial Average ended off 38 points at ten-thousand-512. The Nasdaq Composite Index shed 21 points to end at two-thousand-66. The S and P 500 Index lost six points for the day to
close at 12-hundred-14.

Here's a look at stocks of interest to New Hampshire Investors. Autodesk was down 77 cents. MBNA up 64 cents.
Shares of Oxford Health were up 75 cents. Teredyne closed down 96 cents. And Verizon ended the day down 82 cents.

A company called the last of its kind in the country has closed in Concord.
Penacook Fibre, that made sheets of fiber used for shoe heels,
closed yesterday afternoon after 61 years.
The factory once ran seven days a week, 24 hours a day and
employed up to 56 people. This year, the work force shrunk to four.

Showers and thunderstorms will decreasing, with patchy fog developing. Lows
in the mid 60's. Light and variable winds.

For the North
Partly sunny with highs in the upper 70's and light winds.
For the South
Mostly cloudy with a chance of an earlier shower or thunderstorm. Highs
near 80 with light winds.
The weekend:
Looks like Sunday will be the best day, with mostly sunny skies and highs
in the mid 80's statewide.

It's now illegal to smoke in Keene restaurants.
The City Council approved a restaurant smoking ban last night on
a nine-to-six vote.
The ban prohibits smoking in restaurants, but not in their
cocktail lounges or in private clubs. Restaurants can have smoking
areas, if they install a system to keep smoke from drifting to
non-smoking areas.

Two weeks ago experts were predicting a bumper blueberry crop for Maine. But the rains needed to plump up the berries before harvest time haven't come.
Maine received only one-and-a-quarter inches of rain in July.
The berries need at least an inch of rainper week to thrive.
One grower says his berry crop is off 40 to 50 percent.
